Art Cars is an ongoing project referencing the classic Art Car series from the 20th century, playing the concept on a virtual level and opening up the project beyond ”artist painting on car”: towards what the surface of mobility could embody in the future.
At the core of this next generation Art Car project is the idea that personal mobility soon will be a mere service, public and provided by privately owned brands. Inner cities will be private car free, and one will hail alternative drive self driving vehicles to get from A to B.
This will cause a spike in demand of instant, ad-hoc personalization of the exterior of the car, a secondary market for personalized skins and themes, in order for the car to maintain its status-symbol status and fetish object.
Customization is a hell of a drug.
